•OLIVIA CHERISSE KINGSLEY,
She's slammed nineteen shot glasses down
and whispered silently, kiss me slowly to my death.
I'm driving out of control
and getting ready to crash
Won't stop shaking up what I can
I serve it up in a shot
So suck it down like a man

Maxwell Owen Read finished up his English lesson with a group of Sophomore students moaning about the amount of homework he had given them. The thing with homework was that the Sydney School Board of Education had a strict cirriculum that each grade had to learn -and hopefully know- by the time they recieved their credit. Max didn't try to be the evil teacher bombarding his students with as much homework and he could brew up, he just had to follow the rules. "I know, I know, I'm an awful teacher. But you've got to get this stuff done for Monday." He said, rolling his eyes. He turned to wipe the boards clean as the bell wrung. "Have a good weekend you guys." he said, in reply to a few "Goodbye Mr Read!"'s as they scurried out of the classroom.
He continued wiping the boards until all the little notes on "Romeo and Juliet" had disappeared. Max put the chalk brush down and tidied the bits of chalk scattered among the ledge. Fifth period was Mr. Read's "Prep time" - a spare class where he got to mark papers, tidy his classroom, and make lesson plans. Max loved fifth period. It was the time of the day where he could relax and not worry about which dumb student was setting things on fire in the back of the class. A normal fifth period for Max was tidying up his classroom, having a little snack and getting some marking done. Max loved being a teacher but grading papers was the pretty much the worst thing about it.
After tidying the chalk board, Max walked around the classroom, making sure no one had written on the desks or left garbage anywhere. His sophomores in his fourth period class were usually pretty good with keeping his classroom clean, it was the freshmen and seniors he had to watch out for. He straightened a few of the desks that were uneven and turned around to walk back towards his own desk. He organized it as best he could. Papers, pens, books, and even more school supply-ish stuff was scattered around the top of his desks. Max liked to keep his classroom as neat as can be, but when it came to his desk, that was a different story.
Max sat down at his desk, looking down at the huge mess he was about to tackle. He leaned back in his chair and sighed. He wasn't in the mood to clean anymore. He just wanted to relax. He closed his eyes slowly, wanting to doze off but not wanting to fall asleep, if that even makes any senese at all. Just when he could have been falling asleep he heard his classroom door swing open and slam shut. He jumped to his feet, startled. He looked to the door, only to see Caprice Priestly. He sighed heavily at the sight of her.
Caprice and Max has met during the past summer. They had a little summer romance together. She had lied to him about her age, so at the time he thought everything was going great. At the end of the summer, their relationship ended, like any summer love. But Max had developed real, true feelings for Caprice. He didn't want it to end. But they both had lives and they needed to get back to him. Little did Max know that their 'lives' that they both had to get back to would make the meet yet again.
On the first day back to Hallington Academy after the summer, Maxwell had a first period senior English class. Now, this was only Max's second year teaching at Hallington, but what he had learned from the previous year was that seniors were easy to work with. They got out of his way and got their work done since they were all so worried about getting into the best universities and colleges. But this first period class of seniors brought Caprice back to Max's life. She had lied about her age. She didn't have a steady full-time job like he did. She was a student. At Hallington. In his first period class.
As she walked into the room that morning, Max got tense. His whole lesson was rushed and taught nervously. He refused to look at Caprice. He was too scared. But as the day went on, he repressed the memories of that summer and tried to get over it. He was completely calm, asleep even, when Caprice walked into his classroom for a second time. What were the odds that she had study hall the same time he had his spare period?
She smiled at him, waving frantically. Hi. she had said. He looked at her in shock for a moment. . "Hi.." he responded, looking away from her. The room went from being calm and relaxed to awkward. The tension was so thick you could have cut it with a knife. A million thoughts were running through his head at this moment in time. Why did she come back? Didn't she have a boyfriend? Why had she lied? Should he transfer schools? All Max wanted to do was hold her and go back to the summer where they were both adults having a little romance. Not this. Anything but this...
He looked down to the ground, letting out a nervous sigh. He wasn't sure what to do. Or say. Before he could get his thoughts straight, he watched Caprice strut closer and closer to him until her hands were placed on either side of his face. It wasn't until after she had kissed him that he realized what was going on. Out of instinct, Max wrapped one hand around her waist, pulling her closer to him. He could just taste the summer on her lips. He put his other hand behind her head, kissing her back until she pulled away.
His eyes were wide as he started down at the dark-haired girl in front of him. What was he doing? "I...I don't know what to say Riese. I don't know what you want me to say." he sighed, taking a step back. He didn't want to get another urge to kiss him again. It was like an addiction; he wasn't sure he could control himself.
Her words were too much for him. He put a hand on his forehead, trying frantically to organize the thoughts running through his head, but there were only questions. Unanswered questions that would probably never, ever get answered. "This isn't right, Caprice." his voice was low, almost a whisper. "Our feelings won't...can't change. But I could lose my job for this. I could go to jail." He let out a frustrated sigh and turned his back to Caprice. Max didn't act like a big tough guy, but he didn't want Caprice to see if he were to begin to cry.
"....my relationship." It was like those words had pierced his heart. Their relationship was so wrong but Max couldn't deny the feelings that he did have for her. He hid his pain as he turned back to face her, his face completely blank of any emotion. "Yes," he nodded his head, still not looking at her. "You don't want to break the poor guy's heart." He wanted it to sound like he was talking about Decklen, but really, Max was referring to himself. He wanted Caprice to pick up but figured she wouldn't.
He walked towards the chalkboard and picked up the brush, beginning to wipe the already clean boards again. His hands were shaking and he just didn't know what to do. Everything was out of control. He closed his eyes, fighting back tears. "I'll see you first period, Miss Priestly." he said, professionally. He didn't want her to leave, but he didn't want to hurt anymore either. He turned to look at her, with sad eyes. He silently begged her to say. To say no and to sit and work things out with him. But life just wasn't that easy.
